"Waiting For Her"

The darkness loomed over me like a pool of water from the abyss. My eyes had adjusted by now, as they often do.
It's not been long since the sun had gone down. At least, it didn't feel like it. The endless days always fall away to these nights that I often look forward to. Sure, I spend more time alone than I'd like. Especially lately. I always had my companion alongside me to guide me through the outside world, which I've grown to fear. And she always protects me from danger. But I always return the favor to her.
There's been many days where there might be something dark and twisted looming over us, meaning us the cruelest of harm. Often, I'd lose sleep just warding them away just to keep her safe. There's no deeper love, no stronger bond between two individuals than this. Just thinking about it now warms my heart deeply.
Listening closely, I can hear footsteps scampering outside. Has my companion returned? Or is it some monstrous creature that I must defend against? I lay here, awaiting the answer, my heart racing in anticipation.
The noises from the distance distort into voices. Familiar voices. Has she returned to me?
The bedroom door flung open, flooding the room with light. Then a click and the entire room had seemingly shifted to daytime. I gazed up at my companion with such joy within my belly. Butterflies fluttered around my heart as she gazed down at me.
I watched over her as she and I spoke.
She told me about the wonderful day she'd had. She was with some friends. I asked her about them out of curiosity, hoping I would one day meet them. She said they were like me but different. They could move and speak and dance the way she could. But unlike me, she couldn't bring them home to play with forever.
The way she spoke those final words saddened me. I wanted only the best for her. I was glad she'd met new people just like her, but she couldn't see them whenever she wanted.
We hugged before I returned to the bed. She waved goodbye for a brief moment before stepping out of the room. She needed food. I didn't worry, as I knew she would be back with some for me. She always did.
I lay, staring up at the ceiling. The stars painted on the sky reminded me of the last time she and I had been outside together, star-gazing. We pointed out some of the brightest ones in the sky and said we would go there some day. It was a beautiful moment I wished dearly that I could relive with her. But times change and so do people.
Before too long, she returned. She was in her pajamas. She'd forgotten to bring me food. But I didn't mind. Unlike her, I don't require food. Instead, I only require love. She hugged me as she went to turn off the lights. She and I then crawled into bed together. I breathed a joyful sigh as she held me close. Her love and warmth was something I wanted to stay within forever. Then, she planted a soft kiss on my forehead. "Goodnight, Teddy." she whispered as we both drifted off to sleep.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"The Light"

My day off from work was supposed to be a day for me to relax and unwind and rest. The past few days had been incredibly stressful, from hateful customers to managers that expected everyone to do their jobs for them, and everything in between. It was nice to finally have that down time to spend away from all that. I'd decided to spend my time, not to get things done around the house, but to play a new game I'd been hooked on lately. It was this puzzle game where every room is seemingly randomly generated, each with clean and clever puzzles. After booting up the game, I was presented a room with white padded tiles all over the walls. There were a few green, red, and blue squares. I guess my job was to manipulate those tiles somehow to get me from where I was no, up to the top of the level. I looked around the room and could barely make out an opening. I pressed a single button to get myself started when the light in my bedroom burnt out, leaving me shrouded in darkness...

"Checkmate"

W hen my best friend and I got into a small disagreement, I didn't think all that much of it afterward. When he and I fought, it didn't really end in much besides us stepping away from each other for a few hours before reuniting as if nothing had previously taken place. I knew it meant we had a strong friendship. The argument we just had, however, was completely different from the small disagreements we usually had. Instead of it being about videogames of films, this one got a little personal. Pretty much, I had deeply judged the guy because he wasn't a fan of my speedrun tournament. He swore that I had agreed to hang out with him just before going live with my greatest world record speedrun attempt yet, one I had been spending three weeks practicing for. Before we went our separate ways, instead of wishing me luck or doing our usually angred goodbyes, he snickered at me, saying "Good luck with your stream." Before I could ask him what that was about, he left ...
