My day off from work was supposed to be a day for me to relax and unwind and rest. The past few days had been incredibly stressful, from hateful customers to managers that expected everyone to do their jobs for them, and everything in between. It was nice to finally have that down time to spend away from all that.
I'd decided to spend my time, not to get things done around the house, but to play a new game I'd been hooked on lately. It was this puzzle game where every room is seemingly randomly generated, each with clean and clever puzzles.
After booting up the game, I was presented a room with white padded tiles all over the walls. There were a few green, red, and blue squares. I guess my job was to manipulate those tiles somehow to get me from where I was no, up to the top of the level. I looked around the room and could barely make out an opening.
I pressed a single button to get myself started when the light in my bedroom burnt out, leaving me shrouded in darkness. I rolled my eyes, sighing in distain. This was the last thing I wanted to deal with today.
I opened my bedroom door to try and get some light in from another room, but it was still far too dim for me. I desperately didn't want to change the lightbulb, mostly because of my incredible fear of heights. This was rather ironic, as I a pretty tall person.
Quickly realizing I didn't have much of a choice, I gathered up my courage and headed to the kitchen to grab my spare lightbulb as well as a step-stool.
I arrived back in my room and set everything up before climbing to the top. I fought as hard as I could not to look down. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as my blood ran cold. I took deep breaths, my eyes locked on the rounded glass cover over my lights. I reached one hand to the rounded glass and the other to the screw and gave it a twist.
As I twisted, I could hear a creaking sound coming from above me. It's like the boards up there were struggling to keep steady. I ignored it for fear for falling and continued to twist the screw. The creaking grew louder. The ceiling wasn't very happy with what I was doing.
I hesitated for a few moments, but when there was nothing but silence coming from above me, I gave it a few more twists. Finally, the rounded glass came off in my hand. With shaky feet, I lowered myself back to the ground, where I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
However, that relief only lasted a few moments.
The ceiling, which was keeping calm for the most part, let out a deafening groan as large cracks formed along the ceiling. Then, it gave way. The entirety of the ceiling came crashing down. And I was pinned beneath the massive chunks of wood...
