The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful.
The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets.
Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear.
I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was pointing directly at the rough area I lived in. He was urging people to take shelter. Taking a quick glance at the nearby window, the wind looked to be picking up, threatening to tear down nearby trees. My heart was racing as the overwhelming fear crept through me. The fear that this could be the end for me.
I was living in one of those cheap apartment buildings that had no basement, so the safest place to hide would be my closet in the off chance of a tornado. However, I also lived on the third floor, the top floor of the building. So, hiding there wasn't exactly the best, but it was something.
Turing my attention back to the TV screen, the man on screen looked terrified. He said he'd never seen a storm like this before.
"May God have mercy on us all," he said in a solumn voice, his face full of dread as he stared into the camera. Then, the power went out, leaving me in complete darkness.
At this point I was panicking, my heart threatening to burst from my chest. This is it, I thought. This is how I die.
I raced over to my closet, closed the door behind me, crouched down and closed my eyes. It would all be over soon.
The wind howled, knocking heavy rain and what sounded like small stones against my window. Then I heard a monsterous roar. At least, I think I heard it. It was hard to hear over all of the wind and rain slamming against the building. Then, the deep roar came again, closer this time. Was there something out there?
My curiousity was peaked and I left my closet, running quickly over to the window. I looked outside but it was hard to see anything through the grey curtain of rain. I could see the dark leaves of the trees being blown hard in a single direction. Beyond the horizon the clouds were so dark it was hard to make anything else out.
Then, I saw something. Something big. It was like a giant black shadow that grew darker the closer it got. It was hard to tell what exactly it was. It was something I could only describe as a giant beast. It seemed to be walking upright and looked to be the taller than the two-story house just beside it. It was walking slowly. Walking right toward our building.
I walked over to my desk to grab my phone. I had to call somebody! The cops maybe? My parents? I was uncertain. I just needed my phone.
Upon turning it on I was greeted by the 'No Service' Icon at the top of the screen. Out of frustration, I planted my phone into my pants pocket. I turned my attention back to the window as I felt a rumbling beneath my feet that was short-lived. Followed by another. And another. The beast was getting closer!
But looking through the window, I could make out nothing. It was all pitch black. All except for a faint outline. And once I realized what it was, my blood ran cold. It was the outline of a closed eye the size of my window. And then, it opened. It was staring directly at me. What was it going to do?
