What would you do if you were told you had a week to live? Just the idea of that question makes your mind race. There are so many things you never got to try, relationships you never got to mend. You don't know where to start. Do you say your goodbyes now or do you wait and do the things you always wanted? It's something we don't want to think about. But what if everyone had to?
Three days ago, the scariest message was displayed for the world to see. The skies boomed with the thunderous voice of what could only be a God of some sort. Many believed it to be something from the government or local areas testing out their speakers. No matter what anyone believed, the message remained the same, "The world will end in seven days."
The message was repeated several times over for nearly an hour to ensure it was heard by everyone. When day one hit, there was panic flooding the streets. Everyone rushed out of their homes. Some went to their work places to quit their jobs while others went to spend time with their families.
No company could handle everyone quitting at once and many places had to shut their doors. Some people had to bump their pay up to get their checks two days before the end. Few went for it.
The beginning if the third days was arriving and crime was at an all time high. After all, everyone only wanted others to meet their doom in a less cruel way than everyone else would be forced to endure.
Theories were arising on how the world would meet its end. Was the great power above going to destroy the Earth? Was there some kind of cosmic event that was going to sweep over us and wipe us out? Perhaps nothing was going to happen at all. Either way, we all feared for our lives.
There wasn't much we could do besides band together and hope to survive until our end. Some of us went and attempted to go and do the things we'd always wanted to do, like skydiving or telling the person you'd been interested in that you love them. Nothing was off the table for most. After all, they were going to die anyways.
As it got closer and closer to the end, government officials were doing everything they could to keep the world informed about what might happen. Nobody really cared much about the left or the right as far as politics. Nobody had time to argue with each other.
When the final day arrived, in fear of what might happen to the world, the government, as well as the leaders of other countries, agreed they should do the noble thing and nuke the planet. No matter what was to come, it could only be worse than the end the people themselves wished for.
And so the nukes were lit off and the self fulfilling prophecy ended.
