"The Beast Within"

What reason did you have to fall for her? Was it the friendly compassion she threw your way and you clung to harder than you should have? Was it the look in her eyes when she smiles in a  way you know she's happy? Or perhaps it was the personality that attached itself to your mind with an iron grip that screamed you needed her in your life? In the blindness of love you felt, did you ever ask what she wanted?

Through the dark of night, I could faintly make out the road signs ahead. I could make them out better when the beams of the headlights from the approaching cars lit them up. I was walking in a ditch alongside the road, making my way through town, attempting to make it home. Unfortunately, nobody wanted to stop and give a poor girl a ride.
I would look to every car that passes me by, hoping I'd capture their attention. I was pretty after all. Sure, I wasn't wearing anything too revealing at the moment, but I shouldn't have to for people to recognize I needed help.
I continued my walk home, my feet swelling with blisters from these shoes that were one size too small. I don't know why I decided to wear them today, other than the excuse that they looked cute and went with my outfit. Of course, my outfit wasn't exactly in one piece. I guess I should explain.
My friend had invited me to this party. Her ticket of invitation, convincing me to go, was that the guy I was into was going to be there. I regretted to inform her that he and I weren't exactly at the stage of talking anymore. He tried asking me out the other day and I declined. He was a great guy and all, I was just getting some creepy vibes from him.
I decided to go anyway to humor her. So she picked me up and we went out to where they were throwing the party at. It was a secluded cabin in the middle of the woods. Actually it was just on the edge of town, but the surrounding of trees made it seem it was in the middle of nowhere.
After partying for a nearly an hour, drinking and laughing with some friends, the same guy who was into me approached me. He was trying a little too hard to act casual, though I could see it in his eyes he was nervous, even in his drunken state. I used every tactic I could think of to avoid the idea of us dating, but h kept dodging my attempts and bringing it back up. The guy couldn't take no for an answer.
At some point, he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him. I took the beer bottle in my hand and bashed it against my head. I must have gotten some beer in his eyes, as he was screaming in agony, his eyes swollen like a balloon. I felt bad for what I did to him, but you don't touch a woman like that, especially if you can already tell they're uncomfortable.
I tried to leave but I looked behind me and the man was chasing me. I ran for my friend's car faster but he grabbed the back of my shirt and ripped it. Finally, I made it to the car. I jumped inside, my friend climbing in the other side, and we sped off down the road.
We didn't make it too far, for we were running low on gas. We began to slow. I got out with her and looked behind us. Sure enough, he was still chasing after us like some crazed beast. But he didn't realize my secret, the biggest reason I avoid dating.
My clothes ripped off and my body shifted and contorted as anger rushed through my body. I could feel the hair covering me. I finished my transformation, howling at the moon. My friend was in shock, she knew about my secret, she'd just never seen me transform before her.
I took of full speed toward the man, bit into his torso, and ripped him to shreds, devouring him. But not without removing his clothes. I needed something to wear afterward.
After destroying the guy, I made my way back to my human form and threw on his clothes. My friend offered to take me home, but I told her I would walk this one off.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"The Light"

My day off from work was supposed to be a day for me to relax and unwind and rest. The past few days had been incredibly stressful, from hateful customers to managers that expected everyone to do their jobs for them, and everything in between. It was nice to finally have that down time to spend away from all that. I'd decided to spend my time, not to get things done around the house, but to play a new game I'd been hooked on lately. It was this puzzle game where every room is seemingly randomly generated, each with clean and clever puzzles. After booting up the game, I was presented a room with white padded tiles all over the walls. There were a few green, red, and blue squares. I guess my job was to manipulate those tiles somehow to get me from where I was no, up to the top of the level. I looked around the room and could barely make out an opening. I pressed a single button to get myself started when the light in my bedroom burnt out, leaving me shrouded in darkness...

"Checkmate"

W hen my best friend and I got into a small disagreement, I didn't think all that much of it afterward. When he and I fought, it didn't really end in much besides us stepping away from each other for a few hours before reuniting as if nothing had previously taken place. I knew it meant we had a strong friendship. The argument we just had, however, was completely different from the small disagreements we usually had. Instead of it being about videogames of films, this one got a little personal. Pretty much, I had deeply judged the guy because he wasn't a fan of my speedrun tournament. He swore that I had agreed to hang out with him just before going live with my greatest world record speedrun attempt yet, one I had been spending three weeks practicing for. Before we went our separate ways, instead of wishing me luck or doing our usually angred goodbyes, he snickered at me, saying "Good luck with your stream." Before I could ask him what that was about, he left ...
