We all need a vacation from reality sometimes. Things are getting too stressful, life is getting overly complicated and can often times seem too much to handle. What better time than now to chase what you've been after your entire life. Give up on the social constructs of life and give in to what a permanent vacation has for you.
Finally, I thought as I pulled up to my new apartment, this is where I'm going to start my life fresh and anew. I hadn't much of a plan as to what I was going to do. Instead, I hoped that I would find myself in a sort of new world and learn my way around until all the pieces start to fit in.
It was beginning to feel difficult to manage living in the town I was in before. There was such mass chaos breaking through in my life. My exes were causing trouble, my job stressing me out beyond what I could handle. My friends began disappearing one by one, as they were about as disinterested in my life as I was.
I got out of the truck and went to the back to grab a few boxes. I carried them to the front door and sat them down before unlocking the door and dropping them off inside. As I stepped inside, I took a look at what my apartment had to offer. There was a wide open room with nothing but the white walls on each side. Through the hallway on the right, I saw three doors lining it. I knew for a fact the room at the end of the hall was by bedroom.
I dropped the boxes against the wall in my living room and headed outside to grab a few more of my belongings. I grabbed next, some boxes that held some food. After all, I was starting to feel the hunger rumbling my stomach as I was starved from the long drive here. I figured I would make myself a quick sandwich and finish grabbing my boxes.
I grabbed two slices of bread and spread some peanut butter on it, then took a bite. Although I wasn't much a fan of peanut butter sandwiches, This one went down as though it was the last piece of food I'd ever eat.
After finishing my sandwich, I turned toward the door to grab more boxes. As I opened the door, I was met with white. At first, I thought it was some kind of a truck parked in front of my house, but as I looked down, the same white was where my sidewalk should have been. The apartment was trapped in a white void. I ran to the back door, and my theory was confirmed, filling me with deep concern and confusion.
I was horrified, was my house abducted? Did the earth get destroyed and my apartment was the last thing standing in the entire void of space? I retracted that last thought, space was black. Where was I then?
I went back inside and grabbed a small coin out of one of my boxes. I went to the door and dropped it outside. I wanted to see if I was floating in an endless void, or if I was closer to the ground than I thought I was. I dropped the coin and it fell. It continued to fall until it was completely out of sight. I guess that answers that question.
I shut the door and went back inside. I could only hope that this was a bad dream and I'd be home soon. For now, I guess I can unpack my few boxes I'd brought inside.
It's been several days now that I've been on the void. I'm thankful I brought in a box of food. Without it, I probably wouldn't have made it this far. It was difficult the first few nights sleeping without a bed, but I managed after a while. I found that living out here, the power and water is completely disconnected. I haven't used a phone in weeks.
Most days, I find myself growing comfortable with the void. I've been talking to it about my past and the horrible things I'd faced, abuse and such, before I left to move to where I was now.
In moving in, it was hard to even wrap my mind around that this beautiful place was my own. Fortunately now I can never leave it. I was growing a little accustomed to living here. Until the day the buzzing came by.
I was awakened in the middle of the night by a buzzing sound. Was there more than just me out here? Bugs as well?
I took a peak outside. To my dismay, the buzzing came from the void. The white was flickering as the buzzing grew louder. Then, silence. And the void went black.
