"Well of Youth"

A female voice could be heard, humming what could only be described as a lullaby in the distance. You find yourself being drawn nearer and nearer to it as it beckons you. You grow closer in distance until you meet the melodic singer face to face, only to realize you've made a grave mistake.

Walking further into the darkness, Brenda followed close behind her sisters. They'd known each other for hundreds of years and had no plans of separating, no matter how dire the situations became. The Arkain sisters were a clan of witches that had been together and caused havoc since the medieval days. They met during the Salem witch trials and their souls have been, since, intertwined.
As they ventured further down the hallway, Brenda asked her sisters what they were all planning to do, as it had become somewhat lost on her with them planning when she wasn't around.
Heather and Sarah stopped, and with their torches in hand, explained to her that they were becoming older and it was showing. She knew exactly what they were talking about, the skin on their faces becoming so wrinkled that they had to strain to keep their eyes open with all the baggage. Sarah explained that they knew a secret underground well, who's waters can grant temporary youth.
Brenda didn't quite understand why they needed a temporary fix from the scares of old age. After all, what they were using before was the boiled blood of the young. Her sisters explained that, since the pandemic hit, parents were warry of their children going out. That and they didn't have another place in mind to go and kidnap kids without raising suspicion. They remember the last time that happened.
Brenda nodded and the sisters continued their way onward, toward the well.

It felt like they had been walking for days in this underground tunnel, but they had finally arrived at the well beneath the ground. The well is a simple, circular, brick structure with an opening at the top. The opening is filled to the very brim with a cool liquid. You could say water but the smell emanating from it says otherwise.
Surrounding the well is an eternal darkness on each side. Almost dark enough that you can't see where you'd come from.
Stepping out of the darkness, a tall and slender man approached the well.
"Hello," the man greeted the sisters with a cold and sinister, but at the same time friendly voice. "I am the keeper of the well. Satisfy my riddles and you may drink of the water."
The sound of riddles sent a chill down each of their spines, but as they were touch, they didn't want to appear as though it affected them at all. They accepted his challenge.
"May the person the person kindest of heart step forward?" he asked, almost invitingly.
Brenda stepped up to the man, who was now sitting on the edge of the well. As she approached, the man grabbed her from behind and pushed her into the well. The two sisters stepped forward in anger in an attempt to save her, but the man quickly stopped them.
"If you attempt to save her, you will, too, share her fate," he warned. "Now, will the person step forward, whom is the most challenging to tame?"
Heather and Sarah looked at each other. In mere gestures of their eyes, they had a silent conversation. They both debated about who would be the brave one to step forward. They knew that the person to step forward would be forced down into the well. Sarah decided to be the brave soul and step forward.
"Very good, you may drink of my water," he said with a smile in his voice. He turned his head toward Heather. "Since you wanted to keep yourself standing in the dark, shrouded in a cloud of mystery, you too shall be forced to live an eternity in the shadows."
He let out an evil cackle as hands grabbed every part of Heather and pulled her into her eternal darkness.

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"Tapping"

T here are some things we are all afraid of, whether or not we choose to admit it to ourselves. Perhaps you feel that the ocean is a safe place, yet when you arrive you find yourself fearing what may be swimming below you. What brushed up against your leg? Can they feel you trembling? Can they smell your fear? There I lay, in bed in an attempt to fall asleep. My television was sitting at a low volume as to not awaken me by surprise as I drift to sleep. I've had the unpleasant experience before. Tonight, I turned to my side, facing away from the harsh light of the television, yet still able to make out almost perfectly what they were saying. What was on right now was a couple arguing in a sitcom. I didn't care much for what they were saying, but the roar of the laugh track after every line or two was somewhat soothing to me. I was so close to drifting to sleep, when across the room there came a tapping on my window. I sat up and turned toward the window. It was pitch black...
