"The Hunt"

When one door opens the other closes behind you. You walk through the door as if nothing had happened. You travel further only to find that you have once again arrived at the same door once again. You've been here before, thrice over. Will there ever be any sort of an end to this tormented loop? You approach the door again, only this time you pray there will be something different behind it this time.

I awaken to find myself in a dark room. I feel my way around to find that it's very small, just the perfect size to fit me comfortably, yet room for nothing else. Where was I? I tried turning and looking around but saw nothing, not even the slightest stream of light from any open cracks in the box I was in.
Without warning, I was flung from the box and landed perfectly on my feet. I tried looking around but found myself unable to move. From what I could see, there was a bright blue, clouded sky with a seemingly endless patch of green grass before my. There was a set of trees on either side of me, keeping the path before me narrow and devoid of exploration.
I saw something out of the corner of my eye, a small round blue object buried slightly in the grass. This reminded me of some kind of Easter egg hunt.
I felt my feet moving on their own, moving me forward one step at a time. I was slowly making my way to the blue egg I'd seen previously. Why was I unable to control my own movements? Was there someone controlling me? I tried to look up but was completely unable to. I was forced to pick up the egg and I felt myself look up at the sky with a smile forced onto my face. My arms and legs were forced into a small dance before everything went dark once again.
I found myself, once again, in the dark box I had started in. What was this place? I moved my arms to stretch and was thankful that I could actually move freely this time.
I tried to find a place to sit down in the box but it was far too narrow to place anything besides my feet. I tried turning to sit but still no luck. My feet were beginning to ache.
Suddenly, I was flung back to the same familiar place, the same green grass and the same blue sky above me. When I was flung forward this time, I landed hard on my feet and felt the sharp pain shoot through me. I tried to bend down to rub my feet but was unable to move.
I was once again forced to venture over to the same place that the blue egg had been found previously. I picked it up and was forced to look at the sky again. I felt my body try to do that small dance from before, but I tried desperately to fight back, and was successful. I reached down to rub my feet.
The sky began to flash red and a loud alarm flooded my ears, the first sound I'd been able to hear since I arrived.
I was shot back again to the dark box. This time it was just wide enough for me to sit down. As soon as my butt hit the floor, I felt a strong electric jolt shoot through my body, like pressing down a joy buzzer but I wasn't allowed to let go.
Finally, the pain ended. I was flung back into the same grassy world once again. I was forced to moved over and pick up the blue egg. Then I was forced over to the side and picked up a green egg. I was forced to look up at the sky and do my dance. I was still sore from the shock, but now it was much harder to fight back against whoever was controlling me.
I was blipped back to the black box and suffered what I could only think was my own personal hell. Would I be forced to repeat the same events over and over again? Would I be injured again every time I try fighting against it?
After being trapped for so long, forced into a loop, I was beginning to lose my sanity. The only thing for me that existed was the game I was forced to play. There were a few times I tried to scream out for help, a begging to let me go, but the only response I got was more red flashes and electric shots. This loop was wearing me down to nothing, tearing at every fiber of my being.
I reached the point where I could no longer remember my life outside of this game. Did I even exist outside of it? The longer I was forced to loop the more I forgot. Eventually I just blindly followed what the controller wanted from me. I was nothing more than a puppet, forced to bend to its master's will. I was helpless.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"The Light"

My day off from work was supposed to be a day for me to relax and unwind and rest. The past few days had been incredibly stressful, from hateful customers to managers that expected everyone to do their jobs for them, and everything in between. It was nice to finally have that down time to spend away from all that. I'd decided to spend my time, not to get things done around the house, but to play a new game I'd been hooked on lately. It was this puzzle game where every room is seemingly randomly generated, each with clean and clever puzzles. After booting up the game, I was presented a room with white padded tiles all over the walls. There were a few green, red, and blue squares. I guess my job was to manipulate those tiles somehow to get me from where I was no, up to the top of the level. I looked around the room and could barely make out an opening. I pressed a single button to get myself started when the light in my bedroom burnt out, leaving me shrouded in darkness...

"Checkmate"

W hen my best friend and I got into a small disagreement, I didn't think all that much of it afterward. When he and I fought, it didn't really end in much besides us stepping away from each other for a few hours before reuniting as if nothing had previously taken place. I knew it meant we had a strong friendship. The argument we just had, however, was completely different from the small disagreements we usually had. Instead of it being about videogames of films, this one got a little personal. Pretty much, I had deeply judged the guy because he wasn't a fan of my speedrun tournament. He swore that I had agreed to hang out with him just before going live with my greatest world record speedrun attempt yet, one I had been spending three weeks practicing for. Before we went our separate ways, instead of wishing me luck or doing our usually angred goodbyes, he snickered at me, saying "Good luck with your stream." Before I could ask him what that was about, he left ...
