"Roofing"

Dreams are truly an interesting phenomenon we all encounter nearly every time we rest our heads. Sometimes the dreams are pleasant, you meet someone you'd always wanted to, or experience something that fills you with excitement. Other times, the dreams are not so kind. They might torture your mind and make you wish so desperately you could wake up, but it doesn't come to light. Of course you might get lucky and not dream at all.

The day dragged on longer as my eyelids grew heavier. It was another day of doing construction on a building in the center of town. I was in charge of installing the tiles on the roof. It was a slanted roof, but I was thankful my shoes were tough and slip resistant.
I was lost in sorting the tiles and making sure they were aligned correctly before putting them on and moving on to the next. It was somewhat of a painless process, since I had been doing this sort of thing for over a year now. Standing on high places used to bother be, but at this point I enjoy seeing the world this way. It makes you feel so much smaller when you finally make it back to the ground.
After all the work I'd been doing on the building, mixed with the lack of sleep I'd gotten over the last few days, I was struggling at this point to stay awake. It didn't help that I was doing the same thing over and over in a process that could take hours. I wanted someone else on the crew to cover this, but they were all uncomfortable with being up this high.
I ended up reaching the point where my eyes were actively closing and I had to snap myself out of it because of how dangerous of a situation this would be. I looked around but nobody was paying any attention to me. They were all busy working on the inside of the building. It was at that moment when I shrugged and decided I could doze off for a few minutes, it wouldn't hurt anything.
I slowly turned myself around and lowered myself onto the roof, ensuring I was in a stable spot before closing my eyes and drifting to a much needed sleep.

There was a beautiful girl before me, one I'd had my eyes on for several months now. She worked at the same construction company as I did. I never really go the chance to work with her, so she wasn't too familiar with me.
She had a sort of reputation, she slept around with the people she worked with for a few days before moving onto the next person. Could these be rumors spread from a relationship gone wrong? Or could there be an incredible amount of truth behind it? She was standing before me, so I would soon find out for myself.
I asked her if she wanted to do anything with me that night. I meant it in a way of watching television together, or perhaps getting some food to eat. Instead, the tone felt like there was a fiery passion burning behind each word. Mentally I loved her, but physically, I lusted after her. I wanted her.
I knew she didn't want anything as boring as feelings, nor passion. Instead, she craved something physically, a golden token she could carry away from the experience. She wanted money.
I offered her fifty, knowing full well it wouldn't break me. She shook her head. I offered her one hundred. It still wasn't enough. I took out my wallet and flipped through all the bills within before offering her one hundred and fifty. She rolled her eyes but accepted it, knowing full well it was only for a single night.
That night, she followed me home in her car. She said she was doing it so she didn't have to make an extra trip to go back for it the next morning, but we both knew it was so she could make her quick escape.
She followed me into my home and we kissed in the living room. I pushed her against the wall and her vocals only made me want to remove our clothes faster. There was no time, only the present, and I wanted her.
Whimpers and moans filled the air as our actions left marks on each others skin.
I had one last thing I needed to do for her. I opened my mouth as I stared down at her sweat soaked neck, the pulse from her heart only making it look more tasty. She looked up at me as my fangs came out. She let out a scream and tried shoving me away as I tried lowering my fangs to her neck.
She pushed me off her and I toppled to the floor.

I opened my eyes to find that my body was sliding off the roof. I tried to roll myself back to steady ground but it was no use. I began sliding faster and faster until I hit the edge of the building and could see the ground coming closer.

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"Tapping"

T here are some things we are all afraid of, whether or not we choose to admit it to ourselves. Perhaps you feel that the ocean is a safe place, yet when you arrive you find yourself fearing what may be swimming below you. What brushed up against your leg? Can they feel you trembling? Can they smell your fear? There I lay, in bed in an attempt to fall asleep. My television was sitting at a low volume as to not awaken me by surprise as I drift to sleep. I've had the unpleasant experience before. Tonight, I turned to my side, facing away from the harsh light of the television, yet still able to make out almost perfectly what they were saying. What was on right now was a couple arguing in a sitcom. I didn't care much for what they were saying, but the roar of the laugh track after every line or two was somewhat soothing to me. I was so close to drifting to sleep, when across the room there came a tapping on my window. I sat up and turned toward the window. It was pitch black...
