"The Itch"

Giving into temptation is far too easy to do. The access to the habit is laid out before you, all you have to do is reach out and grab it, letting it consume and fulfil your desire until there's nothing left. Regret is often something that follows soon after. Sometimes the regret can be much greater than any you've faced previously.

Playing tennis with my girlfriend isn't something I necessarily wanted to spend my day off doing in the middle of summer. I'd rather be taking her on a trip in my boat to go fishing, but this also works. She and I were swatting the neon green ball back and forth, laughing at each other as we missed and had to chase after it. We both sucked at it but we didn't mind.
I went to get the ball she'd hit far over my head, when I heard a buzzing sound. What I could only assume was a fly landed just below my nose and tried working its way up. I blew out my nose hard and the bug flew right out and took off. I thought that was weird as hell, I'd never had a bug attracted to my nose quite like that.
We returned to our game for a couple more swats back and forth before I she grew tired and we decided to pack up our stuff and head to the car.
After we got to the car, I opened up the driver's side door and sat down to catch my breath. She opened the door next to mine and did the same. Laughter was mixed in with our heavy breathing as we leaned back in our seats. That was, until she turned to me with a look of shock.
"Honey, your nose is bleeding!" she exclaimed. She grabbed me a tissue from the glove box. I took it and tilted my head back, pressing it up against my nose. "Let me drive," she suggested. "I think it'd be difficult for you to drive one handed like that."
We both chuckled and swapped sides, careful to keep my head tilted back. She started the car and we headed back home.

After a decent amount of time after returning home, the nosebleed stopped. At first it seemed to last so long, we thought it would never end. She even joked that she might have to call an ambulance for me.
As night fell, we made our way into bed. After we got our lights off, I turned to my side, away from her, and drifted to an easy sleep. I can't say what I dreamt about other than possibly the nose bleed from earlier. I was, ironically, awoken by the itch of my nose. Perhaps I dreamed so hard about it that I manifested for it to itch.
I sat up and began reaching to itch it, only to find that it was coming from the inside. I started to put my finger up my nose but I drew back from it. What if it made my nose bleed again? I didn't want to deal with a fiasco like that again, I only longed for sleep.
As hard as I tried to drift to sleep, I found it impossible, for the itch was too great. I finally stood from the bed and made my way to the bathroom. I hovered my head over the sink, just in case my nose began to bleed after doing it.
I shoved my finger up my nose and began to lightly scratch. I must have hit something in there on accident, for it began to bleed. Only this time it didn't stop.

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"Tapping"

T here are some things we are all afraid of, whether or not we choose to admit it to ourselves. Perhaps you feel that the ocean is a safe place, yet when you arrive you find yourself fearing what may be swimming below you. What brushed up against your leg? Can they feel you trembling? Can they smell your fear? There I lay, in bed in an attempt to fall asleep. My television was sitting at a low volume as to not awaken me by surprise as I drift to sleep. I've had the unpleasant experience before. Tonight, I turned to my side, facing away from the harsh light of the television, yet still able to make out almost perfectly what they were saying. What was on right now was a couple arguing in a sitcom. I didn't care much for what they were saying, but the roar of the laugh track after every line or two was somewhat soothing to me. I was so close to drifting to sleep, when across the room there came a tapping on my window. I sat up and turned toward the window. It was pitch black...
