"Stuck"

Second chances are ones that are given out very lightly amongst those that trust each other. You may end up realizing that you're going to learn to regret giving them out. Fed up with second chances that you decide to put them to the test, to prove their worth of a second chance.

I was awakened by the sound of an alarm beeping. It was followed by my girlfriend, laying beside me, grunting as she shifted to grab her phone and turn off the alarm. She sat up and muttered a few curse words under her breath before getting up and leaving the room.
My girlfriend, Sam, is probably one of the angriest people I'd ever met. I don't blame her, she had a rough life. She was bullied all through high school, grew up with an abusive father, and currently works at a fast food job as the only place in town that will hire her. Needless to say she has a short fuse. She once nearly got in a fist fight because someone told her that Star Swords was a terrible tv show.
I crawled out of bed and followed her to the kitchen. She had the coffee brewing as she grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and began to fill it with cereal. She grabbed some milk from the fridge and turned to me. She must have heard me yawning.
"Morning, hun," she greeted me.
"Good morning babe," I replied in a grumble, as I wasn't anywhere near ready for the day and my voice was groggy as hell.
"I didn't mean to wake you up," she said before taking a bite of her breakfast. "I know you worked late last night."
"It's okay, babe," I assured her. I grabbed a cup from the cabinet and filled it with some coffee, the pot sizzling as a drop escaped and landed on the holder of the machine.
"Do you have any plans for today?" she asked.
"I might meet up with a friend later," I said. "Other than that, nothing." I sipped my coffee and almost lost my tongue from the heat.
We both went over and slumped down on the couch and turned on the television and became engrossed in the first program we found.

Later on that day, I met up with my best friend, Alex. She and I had been friends through thick and thin. She helped me through some pretty rough times in my life before I met Sam. She helped me through losing my dad and I helped her through some pretty rough break ups.
She and I sat across from each other at our favorite Mexican restaurant. We were still impatiently waiting for our food to get to us.
"So, how's work going?" I asked.
"Oh god, don't get me started," she replied, putting her head in her hands. "We've been so understaffed the last few days that not even three orders come in and we are swamped in the kitchen."
She told me about how her job had been stretching her thin and overworking her. She requested a few days off just to catch her breath. And I absolutely didn't blame her.
Not too long after we ate, she told me that the time she spent with me today was the best she's felt for a while. She told me that we should hang out for a little while at her place. It sounded kind of sketchy but I needed something to do, being stranded at home all day alone would be enough to drive me crazy. So we got in our cars and I followed her home.
When we got to her place, she lead me inside to her couch. We sat down and looked at me for a few moments before leaning in to kiss me. And I didn't stop her. Nor did I want to. Her lips felt amazing pressed against mine. I felt a spark that I hadn't felt from a kiss in a long time. I leaned over her and she began pealing off her clothes. I followed suit.
Before we realized what was happening, we were sitting back on the couch, breathless over what we had just done.
I looked over at my phone to check the time. I had ten missed calls and a ton of bold, all caps texts from my girlfriend. She was pissed that I wasn't replying.
I grabbed my clothes and threw them on as I headed for the door. I tried getting my shoes on when I tripped and face planted on the ground. I landed hard on the concrete floor. Wait, that wasn't right. Her floor was carpet, why was it hard and cold like concrete?
I sniffed the ground and the smell of cold dust flooded my nose and made me sneeze. What was happening?
Everything appeared faded and glitched out as I got up to my feet. I'd never seen anything like this before, I must be dreaming.
Out of nowhere, it hit me. I had come out of it before. I was in a loop my girlfriend had put me in. I remember going home the night I cheated on her. I told her that if I could go back I would do things differently. She has trust issues and must've wanted to put it to the test.
I screamed for help. In response, I felt a strong electric jolt course through my body and my vision faded to black.

I was awaken by the sound of an alarm going off. I think it was my girlfriends. I heard her grumble as she reached to turn it off. I guessed she needed to get ready for work.

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"Tapping"

T here are some things we are all afraid of, whether or not we choose to admit it to ourselves. Perhaps you feel that the ocean is a safe place, yet when you arrive you find yourself fearing what may be swimming below you. What brushed up against your leg? Can they feel you trembling? Can they smell your fear? There I lay, in bed in an attempt to fall asleep. My television was sitting at a low volume as to not awaken me by surprise as I drift to sleep. I've had the unpleasant experience before. Tonight, I turned to my side, facing away from the harsh light of the television, yet still able to make out almost perfectly what they were saying. What was on right now was a couple arguing in a sitcom. I didn't care much for what they were saying, but the roar of the laugh track after every line or two was somewhat soothing to me. I was so close to drifting to sleep, when across the room there came a tapping on my window. I sat up and turned toward the window. It was pitch black...
