Belief is a powerful thing. Following something with such blind faith that the path before you might be shaky, but your guidance is your only light through the darkness of you existence. You may find it difficult to believe the light guiding you isn't a strong one, but a single light. And the bulb is about to burn out.
Here it is, standing high before me is the one thing I've been waiting my entire life to do. I'm a vegan, so animal cruelty is something I'm so far against that anyone who stands for it disgusts me. I have a few online accounts where I post videos talking about my journey, as well as the do's and do not's of veganism. I like to think that what I'm doing is slowly and steadily making a difference in the world.
Today was going to be a different day. Today I decided that sparking some controversy to spice things up might be the one push that veganism needed to make sure things were going in the right direction in the world. Today I planned to, on camera, talk to people working at a slaughterhouse, to convince them to quit their jobs and shut the place down.
I waited outside the front doors before someone saw me and let me in. I had my phone camera turned on and hidden in a way they couldn't tell I was taping them. I introduced myself as a vegan and was greeted with an eyeroll. I asked the man why he thought the killing and butchering of animals was okay. He sighed before saying "I don't know, lady. I just work here."
I asked him to shut the place down, but all he wanted to do was argue and say what he was doing wasn't wrong. In a fit of fury, I raised the camera to him and monologued about how bad this place was, showing the man's angered face before he kicked me out.
Watching 'The Vegan Journey' was one of my all time favorite channels I followed online. I love how passionate she is about ending animal cruelty. She's the number one person I look up to. That and she's gorgeous. I tried messaging her a couple times, identifying myself as the creator of one of her biggest fan groups. She didn't say much, but her knowing I exist made my heart melt. I'm not going to say I'm in love with her, but if she started a march for veganism, I'd absolutely follow her close behind.
I got the notification on my phone that she posted a new video, but I had to wait to watch it, as I was at work. So unfortunately I had to wait a few hours before sitting and enjoying what she had to say. I worked at a library as the only librarian to cover the night shift. It was typically slow at night, but not slow enough that I could sneak away and play on my phone. No matter how badly I wanted to.
So eagerly, I stared at the clock as it counted up to closing time. I was lucky there wasn't anything for me to do tonight for work before closing up. Because it was slow I had plenty of time to put books away as well as going through and making sure no books were out of order.
I clocked out and headed out to my car and drove home.
As I sat in my parking spot, I turned on my phone to see what 'The Vegan Journey' had to say tonight. This video seemed to receive a lot of dislikes as well as negative comments below. What did my queen do?
I sat through and watched the entire video of her chewing out a man for working at a slaughterhouse. I was right behind her with every word she spoke. What right did they have to kill all those innocent animals? I didn't care what kind of hate she got. And reading through the comments of the video got my blood boiling. They don't understand her like I do.
I went online to my fan group page and found a lot of dedicated fans had already come back with the location of the slaughterhouse. It was no secret that 'The Vegan Journey' lived in the south western part of Tennessee, so locating the slaughterhouse couldn't have been too difficult. And lucky for me, I didn't live to far from there.
The knowledge I had, as well as the hate I felt, gave me a twisted idea. The idea was one I wanted to act on in hopes that 'The Vegan Journey' would see how devoted I am to her. I started my car and drove a few hours to the building.
After I finally arrived, it was nearly midnight. There were a few cars parked outside the building with the lights visibly on inside. I turned off my car and waited patiently outside for the man in the video to come out.
Nearly an eternity had passed before he finally came out. I saw him walking out to his car, holding his key out to unlock it. I got out of my car and slowly made my way to him, trying as hard as I could not to alert him of my presence. One of my footsteps somehow made a sound just loud enough to make him turn around. I grabbed the plastic grocery bag from my jacket pocket from earlier in the day, and threw it over his head. I held it tight so that he wouldn't be able to breathe and pass out.
The blackness faded to a bright light overhead. Where was I? I felt myself laying flat on my back. My head itched. I tried reaching up to scratch it, but to my realization, my arms and legs couldn't budge. I was strapped down. Where was I?
I heard laughter coming from somewhere in the dark room. Slowly, footsteps approached and a face was revealed. It was the man that was following me in the parking lot after I got off work. What the hell did he plan to do.?
"Hello there," he started, smiling in a twisted way. "You don't know me but I know you. A friend of mine tried to get you to shut this place down and stop killing innocent animals."
Oh dear lord, I thought. This guy is one of those crazed vegans too? "What do you want from me?" I demanded.
"I'm here to give you a choice. You can either shut down the operation and work toward saving animals instead of hurting them," he said. He paused and raised an axe in front of my face. "Or I'll let you know their pain."
My eyes went wide. Was this guy serious? Was he really going to kill me because of where I worked?
"Please," I begged. "I don't run the place, it's for a summer job!" I had tears streaming down my cheeks as I begged for my life.
"Nice try, buddy." he raised the axe above my right arm. He swung down hard with such force it was almost a clean cut. The sound of the axe hitting the table was drowned out by my whaling of pain.
