"Mirror Image"

Vacations are a beautiful time, allowing yourself to escape from the harshness of the world. Being stressed because of work and paying bills, you just want to get away from it all and relax. So that's exactly what I did. But a more sinister force may have taken my meaning of a vacation a little too seriously.
My family and I had finally arrived at the hotel, which had taken nearly three hours to get to. It was the closest hotel we could find to the state fair grounds. My husband and I had decided that a vacation was in place after all the stress and hard times we'd been through this past year. That and playing at the state fair this year was one of my favorite bands, Velvet Rose.
After arriving at the hotel, my husband and two fourteen year old kids grabbed some bags out of the car and carried them inside. I made my way to the man at the desk. I gave paid for the room and he presented me with a key card. We made our way to the elevator and toward our rooms to get settled in. We'd planned to stay for a few nights.
While in the elevator, our kids were making faces into the mirror on the back panel of the wall. My husband, Richard, and I started to discuss what all we planned to do tomorrow while at the fair grounds. I know the kids would love to ride some rides, though there weren't usually many there.
When we got to the room, we unpacked and took turns taking showers. My husband went first, for our kids didn't trust the shower in the hotel. They said the bathrooms are always set up weird and the water in the showers never come out right so their father decided to brave it out and go first to literally test the waters.
After everyone had finished their showers, I was looking through our bags to find my clothes. As I was midway through my husband's bag, he told me my bag was still in the car. They didn't have enough hands to carry everything in. I asked him if he could get it for me, but he said he was about to order food. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Fine, I'll go get it." I said. I threw on my shoes and made my way out, slamming the door behind me. Why did I have to marry such a lazy man?
I took the elevator down to the front entrance. As I made my way to the front door, I could feel the eyes of the man behind the desk burning into my back. I whipped around and the moment I did, he looked away as fast as he could and starred down at his phone. I rolled my eyes and continued my way out the door.
When I got to the car, I looked through the back seat and saw nothing but candy wrappers strewn about. I sighed. Before we leave tomorrow, we need to clean this mess up, I thought. I took myself to the trunk and grabbed my suitcase, it was black with a pink lining.
I made my way back inside and into the elevator. I pressed the button to go back up and the gears above me squeaked to life as it slowly made its way back up. I have no idea why, but the mirror behind me felt more apparent than it had the previous times I'd been on here. I started to turn around to face the mirror when the flickering light above me turned to a deep red. The elevator had stopped.
I tried the big red elevator button to get the thing started back up. More like, I tried to reach for it, but I found that I was completely unable to move.
I felt myself slowly turning toward the mirror behind me, my legs moving without me wanting them to. With my arms at my sides, I found myself standing face to face with my reflection. I felt my own eyes burning into my own. I then saw the face begin twisting into an evil grin. My left hand shot forward toward the mirror and I felt my body, against its will, walking toward the reflection.
As I was walking, I expected to feel my hand hit the glass. Instead, my hand began to go through it. It felt like my hand was passing through water, the liquid mirror rippling to my touch.
When my arm was through, I felt a force pulling my body closer and closer until I was completely submerged in darkness.

My vision began to come back. I was standing behind the elevator as a woman stood in the center. I heard a ding and the doors slid open, revealing my husband and two kids standing behind the doorway. They hugged the lady in the elevator. There was some laughter amongst them before walking away. I tried to follow, but I was blocked by a sheet of glass. I tried pounding on the glass, but nobody seemed to pay any mind. Before the elevator doors shut, I saw the lady turn around to face me. It was me. And she began to wave.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"The Light"

My day off from work was supposed to be a day for me to relax and unwind and rest. The past few days had been incredibly stressful, from hateful customers to managers that expected everyone to do their jobs for them, and everything in between. It was nice to finally have that down time to spend away from all that. I'd decided to spend my time, not to get things done around the house, but to play a new game I'd been hooked on lately. It was this puzzle game where every room is seemingly randomly generated, each with clean and clever puzzles. After booting up the game, I was presented a room with white padded tiles all over the walls. There were a few green, red, and blue squares. I guess my job was to manipulate those tiles somehow to get me from where I was no, up to the top of the level. I looked around the room and could barely make out an opening. I pressed a single button to get myself started when the light in my bedroom burnt out, leaving me shrouded in darkness...

"Checkmate"

W hen my best friend and I got into a small disagreement, I didn't think all that much of it afterward. When he and I fought, it didn't really end in much besides us stepping away from each other for a few hours before reuniting as if nothing had previously taken place. I knew it meant we had a strong friendship. The argument we just had, however, was completely different from the small disagreements we usually had. Instead of it being about videogames of films, this one got a little personal. Pretty much, I had deeply judged the guy because he wasn't a fan of my speedrun tournament. He swore that I had agreed to hang out with him just before going live with my greatest world record speedrun attempt yet, one I had been spending three weeks practicing for. Before we went our separate ways, instead of wishing me luck or doing our usually angred goodbyes, he snickered at me, saying "Good luck with your stream." Before I could ask him what that was about, he left ...
