"Floating"

Believing is often a difficult thing for our minds to comprehend. Often times we need the right push in order to fully commit ourselves into believing something that might sound ridiculous to the average person. However sometimes, the most out there event presents itself to just the right person to fall under its spell.

I looked at my poster on the far wall, it belonged to a band I'd listened to for the last few years, their name was The Silver Pelicans. I so desperately wanted to listen to their latest record but couldn't afford it. I needed a job but had no idea what I should do to make money.
Then something clicked with me, I could do the cheap thing and sell stuff online, surely that would make me enough money to buy what I wanted.
I logged on a website that was known for selling things and created an account. Shortly after doing so, I looked around my room for something to sell. I knew my old laptop I never use would make me a decent amount. I was about to snap a picture of it with my phone when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.
I looked over to where I saw the thing moved and realized it was a lamp. It was floating by itself, not a single thing holding it up. I stared in shock and amazement at it. I heard my mom downstairs call to me, saying dinner was done. It broke my concentration from the lamp for long enough to see it fall to the ground, crashing and breaking.
My mom called back up to me, asking what that sound was. My reply was I tried catching something but it broke. I couldn't think of anything clever, but that was what came out of my mouth? I ran with it and went downstairs to endure the yelling my mother had for me.
To my surprise, when I came downstairs she was silent. Why was she so quiet? I asked her if she was going to yell at me and she asked, "Why would I yell at you?"
"Because I broke something?" I replied. "I told you that's what the noise was."
"What noise? I don't remember a noise." She replied.
I was about to fight her on the issue but out of the corner of my eye I saw our dog floating. The dog was shocked and struggling against the invisible hands that lifted it from the ground. I turned my attention back to my mom to tell her but my concentration on the dog was broken and he was gently put on the ground. At least that's what I hoped.
I went back up to my room after I ate the dinner my mom had cooked for us. Was that me causing the random things to float?
After shutting the door to my room, I tried making the laptop I was going to take pictures of float, and sure enough it did. Huh, so I had powers?
I had a stupid yet brilliant idea. If I can make things float, maybe I can make myself float. I opened up my bedroom window and stood on my roof. I laid down flat on my stomach and got into a superman pose. I thought really hard and suddenly I was floating. I moved myself forward, away from the roof. I found myself hovering high in the sky.
I tried getting across the street, but the sound of a car's horn honking broke my concentration. I fell and cracked my head on the pavement.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...

"Checkmate"

W hen my best friend and I got into a small disagreement, I didn't think all that much of it afterward. When he and I fought, it didn't really end in much besides us stepping away from each other for a few hours before reuniting as if nothing had previously taken place. I knew it meant we had a strong friendship. The argument we just had, however, was completely different from the small disagreements we usually had. Instead of it being about videogames of films, this one got a little personal. Pretty much, I had deeply judged the guy because he wasn't a fan of my speedrun tournament. He swore that I had agreed to hang out with him just before going live with my greatest world record speedrun attempt yet, one I had been spending three weeks practicing for. Before we went our separate ways, instead of wishing me luck or doing our usually angred goodbyes, he snickered at me, saying "Good luck with your stream." Before I could ask him what that was about, he left ...
