It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas. There was snow all over the ground, children running around and playing in it. I saw one family building a snowman together. I saw another family making small forts and throwing snowballs at each other from behind them, before ducking down to make sure they didn't get hit. There was so much laughter and joy that it would be difficult to hold anything but a smile on your face.
I turned away from the window when I saw my phone light up, I'd gotten a text from my sister. She asked if I had everything ready for Christmas. They weren't coming to my place, not with it looking the way it does right now. We were supposed to be going to her place for Christmas. I asked her about that, only to be told that she's having her place renovated and that someone else had already apparently confirmed it with me. I told her nobody had. She only told me to get my place ready for Christmas, she'll worry about the food.
I hurried put as much stuff up off the tables around my place as possible. I then grabbed all my trash and chucked it. I spent nearly an hour cleaning and making the place look anywhere near presentable. I sat down on my couch for a moment to catch my breath and looked around, seeing how clean everything looked. I hadn't seen my place look like this since I moved here.
I was nearly done cleaning when I realized I didn't have the one thing that made Christmas feel like Christmas, a Christmas tree. I hurried to my car and headed to the local dollar store. I skimmed through all the aisles until I came across a fifteen dollar Christmas tree. Sure it wasn't all that tall, but I didn't need a tall tree, only a presentable one.
After I paid for it, I made my way to the car and hurried home.
When I got out of my car, I grabbed my tree- and slipped on the ice on my driveway. I tried as hard as I could to get up, but it felt like my back was broken. I tried grabbing my phone out of my back pocket, but it wasn't there. I searched everywhere on my person for my phone when I realized I'd left it on my kitchen table. I had no way of calling anyone.
I tried as hard as I could to call out for help but no sound was coming out. I was panicked by the snow that was coming down pretty hard. I feared only the worst for the situation I was in. What if nobody finds me and I freeze to death. I try calling out one last time before I pass out.
I woke up what felt like an hour later. I was completely covered in snow. I couldn't even see the sky to tell if it was still daylight out. Then, I heard a car engine rumbling. Finally, some help, I thought. That's when I heard the car coming closer and closer- until I was ran over. The car stopped right on top of me.
