"Hide and Seek"

When the lights went out throughout my house, I hid beneath my kitchen table. I held my breath as the creature drew nearer.
I have no idea where this monster came from, but I can say with absolute certainty that it was the most terrifying thing I'd ever laid eyes on. It was shiny and purple with four long spider-like legs that appeared almost spiked on the ends. The head of this creature looked like that of a woman's face. It's face was pale with piercing, cold blue eyes. The size of it was nearly as tall as me, a five and a half foot man. The noise it made was indescribably blood curling and inhuman. The shrieks it let out was how I knew it was even here.
Maybe thirty minutes ago I'd heard it coming from my basement, which a door in my kitchen led down to. I threw the door open and the thing must've heard the door creaking because it's head turned to me and it sprinted up the stairs at full speed as it let out its terrifying shriek.
I was lucky to have escaped that thing and had been hiding down here ever since. I was glad I lived alone. I couldn't imagine a family member coming down stairs after the lights turned out, only for this monster to leap toward them and attack.
Suddenly, an idea struck me. It's a giant bug creature thing, what if I tried to vacuum it up? Perhaps one of its legs would get stuck in the hose. There was only one way to find out. When the creature had found the staircase, it made its way upstairs. I made sure it was safe before sneaking out from under the table. I crept over to the vacuum, which was sitting against the wall in the living room. I found the plug on it and plugged it in.
I lured the monster down by calling for it. "Hey, you hideous looking abomination!" I heard heavy thuds coming from upstairs growing louder and louder. There it was, at the top of the staircase. It stared at me for a second before sprinting down the stairs. I would've been terrified, but I was prepared. I had the ultimate weapon, a vacuum. I grabbed the hose off the side of the vacuum and flipped the power switch. Nothing happened. I nearly beat myself over the head with the hose. Had I seriously tried turning on a vacuum when there was no power?
Dropping the hose, I dodged the creature that lunged toward me. I reacted as any normal person would. I unplugged the vacuum, picked it up, and began swinging at the thing. It backed away from me, shrieking. Only this time it shrieked in fear. I knew what it was thinking, "What is this crazy man capable of?"
I continued swinging at the creature. That is, until the door swung open. It was a man in a black ski mask, whom had made his way through my front door, only a few feet away from us. The creature and I stared at him as he continued to make his way inside. He sat his bag down and looked around, somehow avoiding us. "There's so much good stuff here."
He turned in our general direction, patting the wall. He was probably searching for a light. He found us instead.
"Who the hell are you?" I demanded. I slammed the vacuum down on the creature, hopefully killing it. I walked toward him menacingly.
"W-what the hell was that thing?" he stammered with fear, backing away.
"Your worst nightmare." I replied as intimidatingly as I could. "If you don't get out of here right now, you'll meet the same fate as it did."
He grabbed his bag and charged out the door, screaming. I laughed before turning back to the creature. It was gone. I looked back to the door to see the purple thing chase after the guy. It picked him up and swallowed him whole, the man screaming the entire time.
I shut the door behind me. I had no idea what that thing was, but I was certainly glad it left me alone.

"Hooked"

T he summer can be the perfect time to get away, to unwind while kicking your feet into the cool water while the hot sun is beaming down on you. But what if the bright summer sky was hiding behind it something even darker? I had been waiting for today all week. They'd finally opened the stream up for fishing. I was a little upset at the fact they'd decided to raise prices, but I didn't care, it was a nice day outside and I wasn't about to waste it sitting inside when I could be fishing. With my tacklebox in hand and my fishing pole in the other, I made my way to my truck. I threw everything in the back seat. I was about to head to the driver's seat but hesitated when I thought about bringing my cooler. I had one in the back ready for fish, as well as housing some canisters of worms. But what if I brought one along for some drinks? After a few moments I decided it might not be the greatest idea. It would be too much to carry and I didn't trust anyone that...

"The Snake Tattoo"

T attoos, a work of art displayed on the skin that helps represent the person wearing it. The designs may be interesting, the images fascinating. Pain brought about to ensure success from the artist. But not all tattoos are kind, some bite back at the wearer. Some leave an unwanted scar wrapped in torment. What is one to do when the tattoo fights back? Getting a tattoo for my nineteenth birthday was supposed to be a gift from my best friend. She overheard me say I wanted one and insisted on paying. I was terrified of the needle they'd use on me, making me even more hesitant to going. She continued pushing me toward it, her main excuse being that she already paid for it. Why must she surprise me with such torment? After arriving at the tattoo shop, the man behind the desk asked for our names. Upon seeing we already paid, he asked me what I wanted. Of course, I was nervous as all hell. I looked over to my friend, Jen, for she knew exactly what I wanted. She took out her phone a...

01 "A Monstrous Storm"

The shadows crept in through the window is the dark clouds overtook the mid-afternoon sky. A feeling of dread and hopelessness flooded me, tying my stomach into a knot. Looking at the clouds, I saw a streak of purple lightning streaking across the sky until it crashed down somewhere along the skyline with a thunderous boom, followed shortly by the ground rumbling beneath my feet. It was jarring. what started as a regular summer afternoon was quickly turning into something dreadful. The nearby trees were all swaying lightly in the breeze as rain gradually started pouring down, eventually creating a curtain of turrential downpour that threatened to flood the streets. Another flash of light followed by another thunderous boom forced me to look away from the window. It was becoming far too real for me. The oncoming storm was becoming too much to bear. I walked back into my bedroom and sat in front of my television. There was a news guy standing before a weather map. He was po...
